Code RED has provided Suffolk County with a calling data base that includes the residents and businesses within the county.  To further enhance its accuracy Suffolk County has supplemented this database with the data from its own 911 call system.  The Code RED system also allows Suffolk residents to register two phone numbers and one email address to receive notifications.

This system greatly enhances our ability to reach out to all residents in the event of an emergency. All individuals and businesses are urged to log onto the secure “Community Notification Enrollment” page provided for Suffolk County residents only, to add or update their contact information to ensure that they will be notified when a message is sent.  The data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes.

Youth Squad Wins “Best Appearing Juniors” at ENFD Parade

The CVAC Youth Squad marched to victory on Aug. 4, 2010, at the East Northport Fire Department Annual Parade.  Led by YS President Tom Dobbins and YS Vice President Diana Acebedo, the Youth Squad won “Best Appearing Juniors” for the second consecutive year.  They also won the honor in 2007 and 2005.  Emily Bender, YS Treasurer, accepted the award on behalf of the ecstatic Youth Squad marchers.

The CVAC Senior Corps, led by Chief C.W. Schwalbe, also marched, along with our neighboring departments.  They included Commack FD, Kings Park FD, Hauppauge FD, Smithtown FD, Greenlawn FD and Dix Hills FD.  Even Levittown FD appeared. The CVAC members were accompanied by “not the ghostbuster’s vehicle” 2-16-16, 2-16-18, 2-16-19 and 2-16-83.

Even though the senior corps did not win any awards, we were greeted with applause and “thanks you” from the public throughout the parade route.  The younger parade watchers were thrilled when CVAC sounded the sirens and air horns.  (Their parents were happy when we stopped.)

The East Northport FD Fireman’s Fair kicked off after the parade.  The CVAC marchers enjoyed ice cold beverages, food and ice cream on the hot and steamy summer night.  The fair also featured games, rides, and attractions, including a giant slide.  This highly anticipated parade and fair attracted families and residents from East Northport and the surrounding communities, and was fun for the entire family.

See us on September 2nd as we proudly march with our neighboring departments and enjoy the Greenlawn Fireman’s Fair that follows.

COMMACK, NY The department participated in the VFW Post #9263 (Commack/Elwood) Memorial Day Parade. The event, held annually, is an opportunity for the area residents to assemble as members of the community’s representative groups (Fire, EMS, education, Boy/Girl Scouts) to honor members of the military who have died in the line of duty. First enacted to honor Union Soldiers after the Civil War, it was extended after World War I to honor all Americans who have died in the line.

In addition to marching, for more than the past ten years, the department has supplied the Veteran’s with an elevated platform and a public address system from which to have their ceremony. Led by Chief C.W; Schwalbe, more than fifty members of the department and its Youth Squad marched this year.

Teamwork
Teamwork Saves Lives

The Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Legislature Kennedy’s Office, and the Commack School District PTA team up to provide Friends and Family CPR to the community.

This non-certification course is taught to make individuals not in healthcare familiar with the steps of performing life saving CPR.  So far over 100 people have taken the class and more classes will be scheduled in the near future. If you are interested in taking the course or would like more information, please contact Legislature Kennedy’s Office.

I would like to thank Captain Jeff Bloch for his efforts in coordinating the members and material required to teach the class, the PTA for allowing use to use the room, and Legislature Kennedy for his continued support of the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the community at all times.
