June 10, 2017

On Friday, June 9th, Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps was dispatched to two alarms. The first alarm was a call for an unconscious male, which required use of our advanced life support provider. The second call was for a male with chest pain. Under the command of Chief Jared Brimer, the crew assessed the patient and found him to be exhibiting signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Acting quickly, our members employed the new Suffolk County EMS Pilot Program for basic life support 12-Lead EKG acquisition and transmission. Upon acquisition of the 12-Lead, a skill previously reserved for advanced life support providers, it was determined that the patient was having a STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction). The patient was transported to St. Catherine's hospital, where the patient was brought into the cath lab, for stent placement. This man's life was saved, and Commack Ambulance is proud to announce that our crews were the first to effectively execute this pilot program and save our patient's life!
